🪶 This land is stolen. In our rush to celebrate our break with the Colonizer crown, our marvelous independence, let us take a moment to acknowledge the people who *actually* discovered this nation. Who cared for & cultivated this land before it was taken. Let us keep in mind our own colonial legacy of violence and theft. In between hot dogs, of course.

🌈 We are not going back into the closet. No matter how hard the religious right and this very un-Supreme court fight to keep LGBTQ folks marginalized, we will not disappear. While I’m here, trans kids are of THE MOST vulnerable populations in our nation. Great Nations do not seek to harm, disempower, kill, or erase the most vulnerable of themselves. And neither do great people.

🏃🏼‍♀️ A person’s control over their own body is the most fundamental, inalienable right that we ALL possess. My body can not be ruled by popular vote, and it certainly may not be ruled by a small but loud group of zealots who have never met or seen it, who will never care for it. It’s mine.

📚 Book bans are a high step on the staircase to fascism. Be weary of a class, a group, and especially those in power, who deem education & art the enemy.

🇵🇷 No taxation without representation, right?
Viva Puerto Rico.

🚨 A corporation is not a person. They do not live and breathe under the system they are creating with their political contributions. Get money out of politics. Overturn Citizens United.

🍎 The abundance we are blessed with is mighty. When becoming annoyed in our day to day lives, with our first world problems, let us take a moment to appreciate how GOOD we have things. Fresh food readily available. Conveniences that we don’t consider, which are luxuries in other parts of the world. Let us also take note of the extreme waste that comes with this wealth. It’s worth noticing.

🏞 There are miraculous things here in America. From sea to shining sea you’ll find landscapes to chill your flesh and sights to make you weep. I love the variety in topography, climate, & culture. It is special, indeed.

✈️ Do not call it the greatest country on earth if you have never left it. You have no idea.
I hope someday you do.

I believed that too, but tried it anyway. And the last three years have been full of surprises, adventure, romance, excitement, accomplishment, and so,so much FUN.

Post-Camino playground: Tarragona, Barcelona, Madrid, & London

Here’s a #throwback to all the stuff I did after the Camino. It’s been a whirlwind since I got home, but the timing seems right; Thinking about this trip I am so, so thankful.

-For the opportunity to take it. 8 weeks off, most of them paid, a job that allows me to come and go as I please.
-For the incredible scenes, the sometimes good but always filling food, the beaches and forests and tiny villages, and the cities so crowded I felt I was drowning.
-For the people I met along the journey—some of whom I’ll keep in real life, and some who were beautiful parts of the scenery of my Camino. Temporary companions, but no less important.
-Lastly, for getting back to my real life. After two years of being grounded, a pandemic, becoming a homeowner, part of me worried I didn’t have it in me anymore to run around the world on big solo adventures.
Turns out I do. Boy, oh, boy am I thankful for that. 🙏🏻

Thanks for following along on my journey, for reading the blog posts, for the sweet DMs, for the interested questions, for the gifts, and for cheering me on.

Processing what exactly the hell just happened.

Processing what exactly the hell just happened.

Nearly two months of travel, 500 miles walked, one million tons of sweets consumed (roughly), a handful of new friends, and I have no idea how many cities later…and here we are. Back to the beginning.

Time to reintegrate to society, work, and ‘real life’.
It’s going to be an adjustment, but I have plenty of memories—and photos—to look back on. Let the Camino spamming commence; consider yourselves warned.

Exactly two weeks ago, on day 1 of the Camino de S

Exactly two weeks ago, on day 1 of the Camino de Santiago. Between then and now I’ve walked 180 miles (not including my “off days!”) and am about 1/3 of my way to Santiago de Compostela. I’ve stayed in tiny towns and big cities. I’ve eaten more bread in 2 weeks than in the last two decades. (And about as much chocolate.) I have sipped café con leches in quiet cafes and busy cafes in Orisson, Pamplona, Los Arcos, and Burgos, to name a few. I have slept in bunk beds in rooms with dozens of other people, on a mat on the floor of a room in a church, and—luxuriously— in a double bed in a private room all to myself. I’ve made friends and I have walked miles and miles and hours, and even days, completely alone.
I feel really lucky to be here.
